For my undergraduate dance honors thesis, I conducted in-depth research examining how the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of social media have transformed casting methods in the commercial dance industry. This project combines academic research with qualitative interviews from dancers, choreographers, casting specialists, and agents to analyze the shift from traditional open calls toward direct booking through digital platforms. By exploring industry trends, digital inequities, and evolving expectations for dancers in a post-pandemic landscape, this thesis offers meaningful insights and practical guidance for artists navigating today’s increasingly virtual casting environment.
